Audi Q5: Increased engine noise in passenger compartment

Question:

We are experiencing a problem of increased engine noise in the passenger compartment of a 2009 Audi Q5. Despite visually checking the engine bay and both front footwells, we cannot find the source of the engine noise. Can you help?


Answer:

Yes, we are aware of the fault you describe, which affects Q5 models up to 2009. It is due to the sealing tube of the steering column intermediate shaft being loose or coming adrift (see figure 1.2).
Check if the sealing tube of the steering column intermediate shaft is correctly fitted (see figure 1.1). If the sealing tube of the steering column intermediate shaft is loose or has come adrift, fit a new sealing tube.
